Villa Moving in Sharjah

On paper, the move by apartment and the move by villa are comparable: furniture in a truck, truck driven, furniture out. In reality, the second job is a different animal, which someone who has moved from Al Majaz to Al Rahmaniya, Al Suyoh or Al Hoshie and Al Zahia can testify. There are two or three floors, instead of one; the volume is larger; the pieces are heavier, and a good part of what you own now is outside.

What changes really does is and how to plan for it.

The volume is bigger than you think

Villas fill up. There’s a sofa set in an apartment, and two sofa sets in a villa, one in the majlis, another in the family room, and a bigger dining table, and two times the number of beds, and twice the number of appliances, and a family. Then there’s the garden, with outdoor sofas, a barbeque, planters, a trampoline and the room, not opened by anyone since the last move away, that stores the storage.

In essence, the “one truck, one trip” slogan that most people think of when considering an apartment isn’t necessarily true. A Sharjah real estate agent states that a typical 4 bedroom Sharjah villa requires a bigger car or two trips and 5 or 6 persons as compared with three. Any moving company that estimates the price for a villa without visiting it or at least getting a room-by-room and garden inventory is guessing — and they’re getting it wrong on that day, and in their favour.

Request a site visit. No cost and it’s the only method to obtain a price that will still be a price at the end of the move.

Stairs, gates and the driveway

The lift is the sole determinant of apartment moves. The staircase, front gate and driveway restrict Villa moves.

In Sharjah villas, this is usually the case of internal stairs being narrower than the furniture that needs to be moved up and down the stairs, and the landing has to be turned. The staircase should be measured prior to moving day and not found in a wardrobe, king-size bed or large sofa. A crew that is familiar with the work will pre-cut what must be pre-cut, and have sufficient number of persons to lift heavy parts two flights high, without dragging.

On the outside, make sure the truck can access the door. In some villa compounds there is a height barrier at the entrance and some of the streets in the old areas such as Al Fisht or Al Ghubaiba are narrow enough for a 7-tonne truck to turn. Parking on the main road doubles the distance every item is travelling and is done in the heat. When you contact Villa Movers in Sharjah, they will ask for access before they quote, and will arrange for a smaller vehicle or a shuttle if this is not possible due to the driveway.

Outdoor furniture and appliances need their own plan

Garden furniture tends to be cumbersome, difficult to maneuver and often hard to move. Rattan scratches, glass table tops must be kept apart and covered and metal objects that have been left outside for a year won’t move their bolts. The gas must be turned off from the barbecue. Planters must be empty to be lifted. The trampoline must be disassembled with the bag of bolts attached to the frame with tape; otherwise, it will not be put back together.

The other issue specific to villas is appliances. These items are not transported by two men either: A built-in oven, a large American fridge, a washing machine, a dryer — these are often not carried by two men and require disconnection skills from someone who knows how to do it. Find out ahead of time if the crew will be doing the disconnection and reconnection or if you will need to do the disconnection and reconnection separately. We all know the scenario: On the morning of the move, nobody is there to unplumb the washing machine!

Timing and the handover

Villa landlords, in comparison to apartment landlords, are more particular about handover, as there is more to check out; garden, boundary walls, outside paint, water tank, and the state of the driveway. If possible, take some time between the move-out and the inspection to allow the premises to be thoroughly cleaned when emptied.

While traveling around, begin early. In the summer a move of a villa starts at 7 am and finishes in the afternoon; a move that starts at 10 am is in the hottest hours and the heaviest furniture to be moved is left last. Well-organised Villa Movers in Sharjah will suggest an early start themselves and will sequence the load so the garden and the heavy ground-floor pieces go first, while the crew is fresh.

The short version

Villa moves are not a huge apartment move. Another career, other red flags – volume, stairs, access, outdoor furniture and appliances. Have a site visit, check the staircase, see the gate, determine who’s turning off the appliances, and begin at 7. If you do those five things, the move is on plan – if you don’t, then the plan changes on the day.
